Angels EP is the second offering from rising grime producer B:Thorough’s experimental Textured imprint. To the delight of forward-thinking grime fans, it features a number of coveted unreleased tunes, as well as a remix from genre heavyweight Fallow, who has been on hiatus since his last release in 2019.

The six-track project, moodier and more reflective than its predecessor, shows B:Thorough’s versatility, although he manages to weave his signature pixellated melodies into all he touches.

Opener ‘Together,’ a bouncy slice of 8-bit grime, has received support from Last Japan. It’s followed by the slow-burning 130bpm jam Even Angels Cry, which pairs jangling synth stabs with piercing vocals for a melancholy groove.

Continuing the ethereal theme, Angel In Disguise is a sultry rnb-drenched grime tool. Fallow repurposes it into the kind of wistful dancehall banger he is best known for.

Emotional Ariana Grande-sampling anthem ‘Being Around You’ started off as a Reprezent Radio production challenge, where B:Thorough was tasked with producing an original song in 30 minutes, live on air. It’s since been finished off, ending up as a hands-in-the-air tearjerker reminiscent of 2019’s Forward Fantasy.

No B:Thorough release would be complete without a devil mix and this time it’s ‘Being Around You’ which undergoes the removal of percussion, leaving its forlorn vocals to unfold in high-drama style.

Any chance of Side by Side the vocal mix on Bandcamp, please sir? They only place I have that is on Youtubes and it has really bad sound quality. At the moment I'm Side by Siding myself doing all the lyrics myself and my dog is looking at me like I'm daft. I'm a 50 year old man. I should not be acting like this around the house. humblenations
